Check-in
Marking boats in as they arrive, the dense list view, sorting by class, sail number or boat name, and adding a boat that is not on the list.
Also known as: check in, check-in, checked in, roster, list view, tiles, sort by sail number, sort by class, sort by boat name, not yet in, search, add a boat, walk-up, boat not on the list
Check-in is the roster for this race. A boat announces herself on the radio or sails past the committee boat, and you tap her in.
Tiles or a list
Under the search box a toggle switches between tiles and a list. The list is a tight row per boat, so a phone shows a dozen or more at once and an iPad a screenful; it is the view for a bouncing cockpit. Tiles are bigger targets. Tap a row or a tile to check the boat in; it gets an IN badge with the time. Tap again to undo.
Sorting
The CLASS | SAIL | BOAT control changes the order:
- CLASS groups the boats by class, with the class strip across the top to jump between them.
- SAIL is one list by sail number, 9 before 10, boats with no number at the end.
- BOAT is one list by boat name.
Under SAIL and BOAT every row is tagged with her class, so nothing is lost by flattening. Both the sort and the tiles-or-list choice are remembered on this phone; the default is class and list.
Finding a boat
The search box takes a sail number or part of a name. Not yet in hides the boats already checked in, which is the view to use ten minutes before the first warning. Search and the chip work in every sort.
A boat that is not on the list
Add boat takes a walk-up: sail, boat name, skipper, class (picked from the race’s classes, never typed), rating. She joins the roster for this race and the office sees her on sync. Adding the same boat twice gives you the boat back rather than a duplicate, and a boat that walked up to an earlier race of the series is already there.
