Reporting, blocking and the rules
How to report a post or a sailor, what blocking does, why contact details are rejected in posts, and what to do if your own listing is hidden.
Also known as: report, block, blocked sailors, unblock, harassment, spam, scam, safety, hidden, not visible, contact info rejected, guidelines, moderation, 18 and over
Crew Finder is a small harbor, and it is moderated like one: quietly, by people, and with the tools in your hands.
Reporting a post or a sailor
- Tap the ··· menu on any listing or crew card.
- Choose Report.
- Pick what is wrong: Spam, Scam or impersonation, Harassment, Inappropriate, Shared contact info or Something else, add detail if you want, and tap Report.
The sheet says the important part: Reporting {name}. Reports are private: they will not know who sent this. Afterwards you get Thanks. Every report is read by a person.
If three different people report the same post, it is hidden straight away and reviewed afterwards.
Blocking
The same ··· menu has Block. The confirmation says what happens: You won’t see each other’s posts, and they can’t send you requests. They won’t be told. You can undo this under Profile > Blocked sailors.
Blocking is symmetric and silent. Any pending request between you is quietly declined, and they are not notified of any of it.
To undo it, open Profile, then Account, then Blocked sailors. Each row has an Unblock link, and again nobody is told.
Why contact details are rejected
Slipside refuses phone numbers, email addresses and links in listings, crew profiles and request notes:
Keep phone numbers, emails and links out of this field. Contact info is shared automatically when a request is accepted.
This is the rule that makes the rest work. Nobody has to hand their number to a board full of strangers to find a ride, and the handshake stays a decision rather than a scrape. Skipper notices to your own crew are exempt, because a notice sometimes needs a link to the sailing instructions.
If your own post is hidden
The row in Your listings turns amber and says why, for example:
- Not visible to others. It contains wording that is not allowed and it is waiting for review.
- Not visible to others. It contained contact info. Contact is shared automatically when a request is accepted.
- Not visible to others. Several sailors reported it and it is waiting for review.
Edit the listing and it goes back up once it passes. If you think a post was hidden wrongly, use Send to support from the Help screen and say which listing.
The age rule
Crew Finder is for sailors 18 and over. It is on the sign-in screen for a reason: the board arranges for adults to get on boats with strangers.
Still stuck? In the app, open Profile, then Help & Support, and use Send to support. Otherwise email support@slipside.app.
