Finding a race

The three search boxes on the site and what each one actually searches, the Events list and its filters, and what a club's own page shows.

WebHomeEventsClubUpdated September 4, 2026

Also known as: find a race, search, events, filter, club, season, sort, open for registration, browse, calendar, club page, abbreviation, short code, regatta

There are three search boxes on the site and they do not search the same thing. Knowing which is which saves a lot of guessing:

  • The box on the home page searches events.
  • The box on Events searches events, and filters the list you are looking at.
  • The box on Results searches finishes, by boat name or sail number.

The Events list

Open Events in the top bar.

The Events page with the search, club, season and sort controls

It is one flat list of every series and regatta the clubs are running, not a calendar. Four controls sit above it:

  1. Search a series or club, which matches the event name, the club’s short code and the club’s full name.
  2. All clubs, a menu of every club with the number of events it is running, most first.
  3. All seasons, newest year first.
  4. Open first, which you can change to By name or By club.

A Clear button appears once any filter is set. The filters are written into the address, so a filtered list is a link you can send someone.

Each row shows the burgee, the event name, then the club, the season, the number of races and the dates. On the right is the fee, a status pill and a button reading Register, Waitlist or View.

What the status pills mean

Pill What it means
Open Entries are being taken now.
Late entry Still being taken, and the club may add a surcharge.
Waitlist The event is full. New entries join a waitlist.
Opens Mar 3 Not open yet, and the club has published the date.
Closed Not taking entries here. The club may still take one directly.

Closed is not the same as finished. Most of the events on the site are closed for entry and still racing, with results publishing every week.

Searching by club short code

The short code is the fastest way in. Typing DRYC finds Del Rey Yacht Club’s events in any of the boxes, and it is what the empty state suggests when nothing matches:

Nothing matches that. Try the club’s short code, like DRYC, or clear the filters.

A club’s own page

Every club has a page at racing.slipside.app/club/ followed by its short code, so California Yacht Club is /club/CYC. You reach it from the Browse by club tiles on the home page.

A club page showing Racing now and Past events

It has three parts: Racing now for anything open to enter, Recent results for the club’s last few race nights, and Past events. Sections with nothing in them are simply not shown, so a club between seasons shows a short page and the line:

Nothing open for entry here right now. Their next series will appear as soon as it opens.

Still stuck? Questions about a race, a rating, a protest or an entry the club has already taken go to the organizing club. Questions about your account, a payment or the site itself go to hello@slipside.app.
