What Race Office is, and who can do what

The organizer side of racing.slipside.app, the four roles a club hands out, and where each thing lives.

Race Office is the club’s side of racing.slipside.app. Sailors never see it. It is where an event is built from the notice of race, entries and payments are handled, and a race is scored and posted.

Signing in

Go to racing.slipside.app, sign in with the same account you use anywhere on Slipside, and open your name at the top right. A person the club has given a role sees Race Office there. Nobody else does, and there is nothing to request from Slipside: the club grants roles on its own People page.

The four roles

A club hands out three of them; the fourth is Slipside’s.

  • Race officer runs race day: Slipside RC on the phone, and the Race Day steps on the web for the races they run. Nothing on the club side.
  • Race office builds and edits events, handles entries and ratings, scores and posts. No money.
  • Club admin does all of that plus the money: pricing, discounts, payments, payouts, members, and the People page itself.
  • Super admin is Slipside staff, for support.

The line that matters is money. Anything that moves a price or a payment needs club admin; everything else is race office or above.

Where things live

  • Events is the list of the club’s events, upcoming and past, with New event at the top.
  • An event’s page has the entry list, the schedule, the documents and the event’s settings.
  • Race Day is one race, in seven steps: Prep, Sync, Entrants, Finishes, Scoring, Review, Post. It opens from the race on the event page.
  • Money, Members and People are the club admin’s pages.
  • Settings holds the scoring, courses, classes and sequence rules that the club’s events inherit, under Club defaults.

Times are warning times

Everywhere the office shows a time for a race it is the first warning, as the racing rules name it, never the start. The start follows by the length of the sequence, five minutes under Rule 26. The sailor site, the phone app and the printed sheet say the same.

Still stuck? Email support@slipside.app and say which club and which race; a race officer’s question is answered the same day.
